Description
Over this long weekend you will be surrounded by gentle and rolling slopes and Etruscan villages, and you will have the chance to get to know the real Tuscan flavors and traditions. Welcome to the Pisan Hills!
The Pisan Hills are the green heart of Terre di Pisa where art, history and rural tradition have coexisted in harmony for centuries, since Roman and Etruscan times. The rural legacy comes to light when visiting picturesque towns and villages perched on rolling hills: these colorful views were the main subjects of many paintings by the Tuscan painters’ group Macchiaioli. It’s the ideal setting for your vacation: charming hills near the most outstanding cities of art but also not too far away from the sea. A place which combines leisure with some peace and quiet.
Your journey starts from Chianni, a medieval village of Etruscan origin. You are in the heart of the Pisan Hills, a historical-geographical region made up by the hilly areas of the province of Pisa, east of Livorno and north of Volterra. Chianni is sheer paradise for food and wine lovers!
You head then to Terricciola, whose name etymologically refers to the fortification of towers that encircled the city, now integrated into other buildings, but also to the word “land” for its favorable composition of the soil that made it a point of reference for the centenary winemaking vocation of the Terre di Pisa. Here you can treat yourself to a delicious lunch paired with eight different wines. A real delight! You will overnight in a Country Hotel with Spa to indulge in well-being moments between one wine tasting and another.
The morning of the second day is dedicated to a wonderful guided horseback excursion on the Lari Hills, a small and charming village inhabited since the Etruscan era. There is no better way to discover these rolling hills than on horseback: explore the charm of this hilly area from a privileged point of view. You will discover landscapes, colors and scents that would certainly have passed unnoticed with other means of transport. In these hills the Vicari di Lari Castle overlooks proudly the surrounding landscape. You will make your way back to Chianni by passing slowly through vineyards and olive groves, following the ridges of the upper Pisan Hills. Afterwards, you can enjoy some time at leisure in the hotel’s wellness center.
On the last day, after a rich and tasty breakfast at the hotel, you will visit an oil mill together with a local guide. The city of Chianni is indeed renowned for its centuries-old tradition of olive growing. Here you will have the opportunity to discover the process of oil production, from the plant to the harvest, pressing and grinding. The extra virgin olive oil from Chianni is an oil with an intense color and a fruity taste.
At the end of this interesting visit, the most stimulating part will follow: the olive oil tasting! You can savor all the aromas and scents of this magnificent land.
What are you waiting for? You will be enchanted with the great landscape variety and food and wine delights of the Pisan Hills! Live an authentic experience, off the beaten path, and above all at the pace of nature!
